It is one of the oldest existing city located in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan. Pushkar is the well-known holy place famous for its Jagatpita Brahma Temple all over the world. City Mythology:
The name ‘Pushkar’ came from the Sanskrit word pushpa means flower and kara means hand. The origin of city is tied to Lord Brahma, who is the creator of the whole universe. According to Hindu mythology, Brahma dev dropped a lotus flower on the ground to kill a demon which led to the formation of famous Pushkar Lake. This lake is regarded as ‘Tirtha Raj’ and is considered as the holiest lake by Hindus and Sikhs. It is believed that pilgrimage will remain incomplete without bathing in the holy water.
Today, the city has around 52 ghats and havelis surrounded by the sacred Lake which is the main tourist spot. Nearly 500 small temples are there within the city which are mainly blue in color. Some are surrounded by the sacred lake and others are nearby. The evening aarti at the lake makes the atmosphere more spiritual. People dive into the magical chants coming from the temples forgetting all their sorrows. Here tourists come across heritage architecture, religion and culture of people. How festivals are celebrated, how people are busy worshiping and how priests live here. Here in the city non-veg is strictly banned and people are pure vegetarian. Alcohol, drugs and other items are illegal and is not available in the city.
Savitri Mata Temple:
Savitri Mata Temple is another pilgrimage place to visit in Pushkar. It is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Goddess Savitri at Ratnagiri Hill. Goddess Savitri and Goddess Gayatri, both are consorts of Lord Brahma. Today, facilities has made the way easier to Ratnagiri Hill as ropeway ride is available which take you on the top of hill to visit temple easily. If you are capable you can take steps which are only 650 in counting. From the top you can enjoy lovely views of lake and Pushkar’s skyline. The sunrise view looks amazing as the surrounding Aravali Mountains are fabulous. It is one of the famous temple which is worth visiting.
Experience the World Famous Pushkar Camel Fair:
Pushkar Camel Fair is one of the world’s biggest fairs where traders visit to buy and sell camels, cows and horses at Mela Maidan. The fair remains for around 5 to 7 days where Rajasthan’s rural culture is showcased deeply. Camels are dressed beautifully in bright colors so they look attractive. Every year the Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan and the Pushkar Mela Vikas Samiti organizes Pushkar Camel fair in between October and November. The fair is so massive and vast that tourists, traders, artists, dancers and musicians gather here and take part in:
- Camel Races and parades
- Puppet shows and supple performances
- Shopping Bazaar selling readymade and homemade products
- Food Stalls where proper Rajasthani cuisine are available
- Traditional Sports and other team entertainment competitions
Best Time to Plan Pushkar Trip:
Any month from all twelve months is not a good idea to visit Pushkar. The best time to visit there will be from November to February because it is winter time and the weather there will be quite favorable to explore the city.
Summer Season: Summer season is very hot and it is little difficult to plan a trip to Pushkar (in the desert area). At this time temperature soars high as sun showers its rays on earth in plenty. We have to face heat and sweating in the months from March to June. So if you have a confirm trip and it is necessary to travel than you must carry proper precautions like water bottle, umbrella, sunscreen and other summer essentials with you to be protected with heat.
Monsoon Season: Rainy season months are from July to October when you experience cool weather around the city. Rain makes you feel relax from hot summer waves.
Winter Season: Winter season comes from November to February is a very good time to visit Pushkar as weather is in our favor. Not much heat is there and we can spend our full day outside exploring the city. It is very satisfied season for tourists as temperature remains moderate.
Different Ways to Reach Pushkar:
There are many ways to reach Pushkar, Rajasthan but the only thing that matter is how far you are living and how long you need to travel.
- Like if you are travelling by Air than the nearest airport is in Kishangarh from where you can book a cab or take bus.
- If you are coming by train than you need to travel Ajmer Junction than go for a cab or bus.
- And lastly if you have taken your car than national highways are well-constructed and roads are connected all over, so you can come via Delhi, Jaipur and Udaipur.
